The Mississippi Queen – ShebaButter On My RollsSheba – Self-ProducedFemale singers, like every other type artist in this business, even good ones, are a dime a dozen. Once in a great while, one comes along who bowls you over for one reason or another. She might be drop dead gorgeous, play guitar like Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan or even combine the two attributes. Sheba is a unique sort in so many respects. Lately the trend has been for the guitar slingers with legs that don’t quit. I mean no disrespect; these are good qualities to be sure. Sheba is a throwback of sorts to a much earlier era. This woman’s voice covers a wide spectrum. She can jump and swing, growl much like the late Koko Taylor, purr like a kitten, seductive and sultry enough to melt the soles of your shoes and switch gears in a heartbeat. This is no one-trick pony. She is also one of those songwriters that is a rarity…writing all but one of the tunes on this thirteen track CD. Backed by a band that is unstoppable, Sheba is“old-school” in her approach and style. From the minute she opens her mouth, the audience finds itself enveloped in a way that leaves them comfortable as a baby in its Mother’s arms. Her vocals are soulful, sultry, seductive, comforting and powerful, dripping with an emotional power that is out of this world. Sheba’s got it all and she knows how to use it. I listened through the entire disc only to find myself longing for more when it ended. This woman can weave a tapestry in words and music that sticks with the audience long term. Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, she, like so many before her, began singing in church. This one is a winner any way you slice it. I haven’t experienced this kind of power since the early days of Koko Taylor, Etta James and Billie Holiday. Now, that’s some kind of company. I am not one who normally makes that kind of comparisons but from time to time they are called for and accurate. Sheba’s a winner, well worth the price of the album and then some. Put this one on, relax and be prepared to be amazed. – Bill WilsonWebsite – http://www.sheba.cc/home.htmlFaceBook – https://www.facebook.com/ShebaTheMississippiQueenYouTube –http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Sheba+the+Mississippi+Queen&oqSheba Makeda” - Bill Wilson
